What do you mean by “healing?”

 

Zojo does not use the term healing to mean that you will suddenly be cured of any ailment. We believe living a lifestyle of mindfulness may very well help to reduce or prevent medical problems, especially those that are related to stress and trauma.


What is mindfulness?

Do you ever feel like you’re living on autopilot, like a robot or machine? It’s great to have a routine, but the danger for Black women is that our habits usually involve taking care of all the people around us — and totally neglecting our own health.

Zojo was created to promote mindfulness, which simply means stopping to think + focus your intentions + tend to your health.

Practices like yoga, meditation and counseling can help you get un-stuck—so you can be fully present for every moment of your one-and-only life.

What is yoga?

Yoga was created thousands of years ago in India to help people achieve the stamina required for long periods of meditation.

At a yoga class, you’ll be led through a series of physical postures designed to purify the body and increase the physical strength.


What is counseling?

Working to reduce difficult feelings and behaviors

 

Therapy, also called psychotherapy or counseling, is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and somatic responses (sensations in the body). Through therapy, you can change self-destructive behaviors and habits, resolve painful feelings, improve your relationships, and more.

What is reiki?

Palm healing

 

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress.

The practitioner will place their hands softly on the body or just above the body. Practitioners don’t use massage or manipulation. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion.

Meditation is a practice where an individual focuses the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.
